An Autumn Affair

Lowndes Grove

The Charleston Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier hosted a fund raiser October 27 at beautiful Lowndes Grove Plantation.  It was one of the nicest events I have been to in Charleston featuring over 100 wines and artisan food samplings, all enjoyed on a perfect fall evening on the banks of the Ashley River.  My friend, Susan, and I had to be strategic with our wine tasting, so we chose according to varietal and, in some cases, price tag.  What a great way to sample bottles in the $40-$80 price range without having to purchase the entire bottle!

Some of our favorites were: Cattin 2010 Riesling (Alsace); Belle Gloss “Los Alturas” Pinot Noir 2009; and Ehlers Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 (Napa Valley) which was spectacular with the spiced chocolate mousse (cinnamon, cardamon, cayenne, cloves, and ginger – you would have to taste it yourself to believe how incredible it was!!) offered by Circa 1886.
